Hau`oli La Ho`omaika`i …Happy Thanksgiving
Aloha and apologies for being silent for so long. Hard to believe that from me! After grandson left in the latter part of July we got back to business, getting the condo in order for us. We had just moved in mid-June and since we were occupied with Keegan we didn’t have a lot of time to get it customized for us. We also had a recall on the car so that took a day out of the schedule. Hair cuts, manicures, flu shots and all the every day have to get accomplished tasks followed. In between you can be sure we packed our lunch and our chairs and headed for the beach. I’ll start with a rainbow and end with our evening view.
In mid October we were lucky to meet some soon to be new friends, hailing from New England. They visited the island to celebrate their 25th anniversary. We were introduced via email by a mutual friend in Massachusetts. They seemed to have a terrific time exploring and we finally were able to connect for coffee in Waikiki. There are just some folks that you connect with right away and it was our pleasure to spend time with them. I’m attaching a photo at the local Starbucks. When the surf advisories are raised that’s the time we hop in the car and go to the North Shore to watch the surfing at the “pipeline”., aka Sunset Beach. I’ll post a few photos and a video if it will upload. Turn on the sound and enlarge your screen for maximum effect.
Noticeably there are no billboards here and definitely no honking of the horn unless it is an emergency and dire situation. They consider it to be very rude and stress the aloha spirit of being kind to one another even on the roads. The biggest news here is that the port authorities caught a stowaway skunk or two. It is always on the news. Another type of animal that is forbidden in residence in Hawai’i but somehow they hop on a cargo ship. Jeanne F. had previously inquired as to peacocks…they are in the Honolulu Zoo and oddly enough we did see 1 in a yard in a very rural area but they are not prolific and I’m quite sure the one in the yard was a runaway or a rogue actor!
We had the condo refrigerator repaired the other day and the repair person who had been here before accidentally shorted out the unit rendering it unusable. The property manager advised it would be 4-5 weeks!!! Yup weeks….so Les and I went to the local Home Depot and bought a small 7.5 cu fridge like a college dorm would have to avoid us losing all our frozen items…we were lucky it fit in the SUV just barely. This presented a problem for “turkey” day but today we finalized our shopping and were able to get a 10 pound turkey, the smallest available. Good thing we went today because they were close to being sold out already…it was $30, yikes..$7.00 for a small butternut squash…but…we have fodder to add to our blog!
Anyway hope everyone has a healthy, safe Thanksgiving. I’ll do my best to at least make an entry once a month. Warm Aloha..
