Holiday Season 2025

 Mele Kalikimaka …Merry Christmas…Feliz Navidad

Aloha and for those following the blog an update on the refrigerator saga…new delivery date should be mid January.  Apparently they must be custom making this refrigerator and shipping it in a custom made crate hahaha.  But I digress.

December has been busy thus far with the local Hawaii Kai Parade which was fun especially since we just walked out of the condo with our chairs to the road and set up camp across from the fire station.  It was fun and very “homey” with local politicians and the Honolulu Mayor marching and passing out candy canes.  I’ll post a few pictures.

Then we were treated by the Condo Association/Property Management to a party for everyone.  It was super fun with plenty of food, desserts and activities for the Keiki (pronounced Kay kee) which means children.  Admittedly Les and I did participate in the Photo Booth and I’ll also post that photo.  Beautiful night for the gathering and we were able to connect with some folks we sat with.  Hold that thought.

The following day Les and I attended the musical Chicago at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.  After we parked and as we were walking into the pavilion we ran smack dab into the same people we had met at the Jubilee party the evening before.  O’ahu is certainly small.  We enjoyed the show which was performed by the New York touring company.

The following day, Sunday, we participated in the SantaHat 5k, Les’ first 5K. He has been working very hard to get his walking pace at an excellent clip.  We decided running was out due to potential knee issues, why push it!  We both had so much fun and although we were certainly not in the mix with the runners Les was 4th in his age division and I was 7th.  I’ll post a couple of those pictures also.  Windy and some sprinkles but overall great!

The following week was the “massive” boat parade beginning at the local marina and winding its way down through the various inter-coastal areas.  We decided to watch from a closer than the balcony vantage point so we walked to the common park in our complex.  It was very very windy and for us a little chill was in the air…okay okay it was maybe 70 but with that wind we were forced to put long sleeve shirts on!  I’ll post a few of the boat parade photos which was actually quite a bit larger and nicer than I had anticipated.  The folks go all out and as a matter of fact one of the boats “Showboat” actually had 3 dancers performing a routine on the deck.

And to round out the month (and it’s only half over!) the Honolulu Marathon was this past Sunday and we arose earlier than usual to walk down to a good spot to cheer the runners on.  I believe the number of entries was somewhere between 40-42,000 !  Wow.  The oldest man that participated was 94 and he finished in 8 hours, Bravo!  Our neighborhood is about mile 19 and we were so surprised to see how “fresh” many of these runners look!  The winner finished in 2 hours 6 minutes with a 5:05 minute mile pace.  When the race started at 5:00 am in Honolulu it was absolutely pouring rain, yikes!

And so now as I close out this post Les and I would like to wish you warm aloha…next post will be 2026!
