“The Oozlefinch”

For those of you that know us well you know when its says “free” we line up!     Some of the most interesting things are free and usually people stumble across them accidentally.     We had walked by the US Army Museum of Hawaii many times (okay it’s the back way to Diary Queen in Waikiki).  The building is located on the water and Battery Randolph was built as a first line of defense against an attack by sea.    It’s a low profile building that resembles a grass covered sand dune and is made of steel reinforced concrete 15 feet thick. The museum galleries on the ground floor depict early Hawaiian warfare through the Vietnam War.    The second floor Gallery of Heroes leads to the Cobra helicopter and 7 inch gun from the battleship USS New Hampshire on the roof. Les is pictured with “The Oozlefinch”, the fictional mascot of the Coast Artillery USA.    This bird flies backwards in order to keep the dust out of its eyes and is s...

Spring has arrived!

Our friends David and Denise arrived this afternoon, flew in from DFW via Sea-Tac.     It was a long flight for them but they were excited to see our little island of Paradise.     It will probably be less intensive for the reader if I just list where they went and post some photos.     Many of the places they visited were repeats for us so we skipped some.     Interestingly enough there were a few places we had not intended to go but did and were pleasantly surprised with.   We were so happy that the rain stopped for their arrival (even though it returned the day they departed haha). A visit to O’ahu is never complete without a stop at Pearl Harbor, including the Aviation museum.   David and Denise spent the day exploring PH.  The next day we all went to Magic Island (Waikiki) for the Friday Night fireworks show.    Aloha Stadium for local swap meet/shopping spree (no, not Les). Monday found us at Diamond Head where ...

Aloha and welcome to the first entry of the new year.     Before I digress I am posting a photo of a peacock which was one of many roaming around an adjacent neighborhood where Les and I walk.     Previously my friend Jeanne F. had inquired as to whether we had seen them. Our first visitors of the new year were Cousin Joe and his bride Sher from Alabama.    They were escaping the unusually chilly weather there and managed to “get out of Dodge” just before it descended unto the area. They arrived January 13th after an unplanned detour through Chicago.    I’ll summarize some of the highlights so as not to bore those who don’t know them.    We had a wonderful time with them. We toured some of the local tourist spots and many of them are featured on any local bus tour.    The N’ali Pali’ Lookout is always fun to visit since it is usually very windy, a small price to pay for a fantastic view of the windward side.    We did...
